Our Process

Step by step memorial design process. Homestead Memorials helps you to choose, design, manufacture, delivery, installation & setup your right one.

Memorial Design Homestead Memorials provides all types of custom and traditional monument, headstone and gravestone. Basically we are a Linden, Alberta based company.

If you live in the area, you will already know there are a couple of other businesses in the funeral and monument industry that have similar business names, and this caused some confusion for our dear customers. We heard the frustration in their voices and decided to do something about it! As of October 2021, we are Homestead Memorials. The same caring owners, with a slightly different business name.

Also our granite is all 100% natural with no added colours or fillers. We usually buy directly from the quarries to get you the best price possible. A lot of our granite comes from the Canadian Shield but some of our favorite colours come from Norway, South Africa, and India. We are extremely particular about the quality of our granite, which is why we can guarantee it for LIFE to never rust or fade.

Another key point is we work with the best graphic artists and designers and use both CNC machines and hand carving in our manufacturing process. Homestead Memorials think you will see that our ability to put memories into granite is a rare find. Unlike other companies, we don’t charge for design or extra lettering. Every memorial comes with unlimited lettering and pictures (standard carving) on one surface. Additionally Homestead Memorials will work with you on your design until you are 100% happy.

Choosing a Memorial

Choosing a memorial can be a daunting process, especially because it is something most people only do a few times in their lifetime. Here are some steps that give you an idea of what comes next.

Step 1 | Picking the stone

There are 4 decisions to be made when choosing the stone; shape, color, size, and polish*! These 4 things should be decided before the design stage. We stock a lot of standard shapes in small, medium and large sizes. If we do not have this particular piece in stock we will order the material at this stage. We also require a deposit at this point before ordering your stone or to put a hold on it if we have it in inventory.

*Flat monuments and bases are commonly polished on the top only (P1) with balance rock-pitch edges (BRP).  Upright monuments are commonly polished front and back (P2) with rock-pitch edges, but can also come with the top and edges polished (P3 or P5).  Pillow monuments are commonly polished top, front, and back (P3, BRP) with rock-pitch sides but also come in P1 or P5.

Step 2 | Creating a Design

This step usually involves sitting down (in person, or by phone, email, or zoom) to reflect on the life of your loved one and what represents them best. This process usually takes the most time as we pass the designs back and forth and make changes to create a living memorial for your loved one. What comes to mind when you think about them? Do you have specific memories of them or things they liked to do?

Step 3 | Manufacturing

Once you are 100% satisfied with the design, you will approve it and the manufacturing will begin as soon as the stone arrives. This stage usually lasts 2-3 weeks from the time of approval. Once it has been completed, you will receive photos and the final invoice to be paid prior to delivery to the cemetery. You are very welcome to come visit the shop and see the completed memorial in person before paying the final balance.

Step 4 | Delivery and Installation

The final stage is delivery, installation and setup at the cemetery, and final photos!
